Making Connections. Embracing Equity: Helping All Children Reach Their Full Potential

    I had initially chosen NAEYC's website. The NAEYC website includes publications, research, professional development programs, expert opinions, position statements, and blog posts about the organization's work.
    The Resources section brought me to a page with articles on many different topics in Early Childhood Education. A simple membership in the NAEYC organization is enough to access these articles. There is also information on culture, science, life and technology, play and education, program focus, social issues, and student and professional. It continues to be updated continuously to provide information and resources on current issues and events.
"At NAEYC, prejudice prevention education has long been at the heart of our work on race, social justice, equality, and diversity."
NAEYC's Strategic Direction identifies are including;
State and federal policies reflect comprehensive approaches to providing equitable access to high-quality early learning, with particular focus on children living in poverty, multilingual children, children of color, and children with disabilities.
Early childhood professionals are diverse, effective educators and leaders working within a compensation and recognition system that supports their excellence (naeyc.org)
    I reached the article "Making Connections. Embracing Equality: Helping All Children Reach Their Full Potential" (Allvin, R., 2018)." as a result of my searches. This article helped me understand that equality and excellence I have encountered in my position is not an isolated issue. Instead, it is a national problem that is plaguing our education system, and if we do not act quickly and effectively, it will change the educational situation in the future.
In article gives much information about diversity and equity.
Recognize that children are best understood and supported in the context of family, culture, community, and society.
Respect the dignity, worth, and uniqueness of each individual (child, family member, and colleague).
Respect diversity in children, families, and colleagues.
Recognize that children and adults achieve their full potential in the context of relationships that are based on trust and respect.
Advocate for policies, practices, and systems that promote full and inclusive participation.
Confront biases that create barriers and limit the potential of children, families, and early childhood professionals.
(Allvin, 2018)

NAEYC is developing a position statement on diversity and equity and is also gathering feedback to update its position statement on developmentally appropriate practice (naeyc.org).
